Playa Hermosa Backpack program 2020
Playa Hermosa Grade School Backpack Program 2020
The Playa Hermosa Grade School Backpack program was once again a complete and total success. This year was special as all the Backpacks filled with School supplies came from the efforts of one group.
The D&D United Martial Arts Group from Brantford, Ontario, Canada came to Costa Rica for the International Congress of Martial arts where their Team Canada group competed with other martial arts groups from around the world. Instead of coming to Costa Rica for their contest and enjoying our beautiful country, they went out of their way to provide ALL the Backpacks and ALL the School Supplies that came in the backpacks. They reached out to the members of different martial arts groups that comprise Team Canada and were able to raise enough funds to donate all the backpacks filled with supplies.
Normally we get donations from many different sources and go out and purchase the backpacks and supplies and then fill the backpacks and assign them to each student in the school. In other words it is a lot of work for local volunteers. Well this year it worked out so smoothly that all the school had to do was provide the name, age and gender of all the students and the folks in Canada did the rest. The backpacks were shipped already filled with supplies and the names of the students on each bag. Talk about organization!!
Thank you to Linda Geikie Davis and everyone at Team Canada and D&D Martial Arts Group for coordinating from her end to purchase and fill all the backpacks. Thank you as well to Barry Wilson at Ship Costa Rica barry@shipcostarica.com for making the shipment from Canada to Costa Rica go smoothly and on time. Many thanks as always to Gary Lundquist and all the Parents and Staff at the Playa Hermosa School. By the way if you have not been by the school lately it is looking extremely good. There are a number of new classrooms, the common areas are now all mostly covered, there are computers in the classrooms. It is now a school that you would like to send your children to. Thanks to all that have contributed time and money to make these changes happen. Way to pitch in everybody. It is really a school we can be proud of.
